Postponed

I had planned on sharing an awesome project today, I was sure I'd be
finished and I was excited to share it.

Sadly a major sewing mistake has postponed this project for a while.
I'm really kicking myself for not being more careful and I'm working
up to the huge amount of unpicking that's going to be required.

Happy Birthday to Me!

I am one lucky girl.  This was a gift from my Mom.

Needle Book 2

When I told my Mom I made a book to put my needles in she thought I was silly but it only took one look at the finished product for her to decide that she too needed one.

I told her I'd make one and that's the last we talked about it.  That was in May.

On a trip to Fabricland she said she needed to buy some felt so she could make her own needle book, I told her I'd actually make one and went home and did it.

Now I just need to get it to her.

Necklace Pouch Tutorial

I actually made a sale!  A friend of mine wanted a necklace, bracelet and belt for her little Daniella but she doesn't live in Lethbridge.  I didn't want to just throw the items in an envelope and mail them so I made up a real quick pouch for them all.

I cut a piece of felt into a rectangle and then used my pinking shears to cut the short edges so it'd be decorative.

Then I folded the felt in half lengthwise and sewed it.  I was going to hand sew it so I didn't have to pull out my machine but about 4 stitches in I changed my mind and decided it would be so much quicker to machine shew.

I trimmed the corners so it would turn nicely and then turned it so my seams were iniside.

For a tie I wove embroidery thread through and then knotted the ends.

I put in her items, sinched it closed and wrapped around a couple times.  A bow would have been cuter but I ddin't leave enough thread.  Sort of plain but it got the job done.  I slipped in in an envelope and dropped it in the mail.

Hope she loves them!

Baby Gate

We have two sets of stairs right beside each other, one goes up, one goes down.

The one that goes down doesn't ever get used, it leads to nothing but a closed door that separates our suite from the one downstairs.  So far Catie hasn't shown much interest in these stairs but it requires watching when she goes near them, a fall down would be really bad.

Then there's the stairs that go up.  Catie loves to go up yet can't manage down yet so they also require a lot of supervision.  Normally it's no big deal to watch her but when I'm trying to prepare dinner it's a challenge, they're right by the kitchen.  We don't really want to hang gates since we're renting, we're trying to help her learn so we don't need them.

The other day I just couldn't handle one more trip up the stairs though so I came up with this.

Both Brad and I think I'm a genious.
Obviously it's not fool proof and it still requires watching but it deters her from trying which is just what we need sometimes.  For now it's the perfect solution.

A String of Bad Movies

It all started with When in Rome.  A cute enough looking movie and I like Kristen Bell.  Not a bad idea but everything was so ridiculously over the top, it wasn't even one of those movies you could be "in the moment" for, just silly.  The men in love with her were silly and ridiculous and come on, she stands in a fountain in her wedding dress?  Right.

We moved onto Leap Year hoping to take away the bad taste of When in Rome.  There were moments that were sweet, moments that were embarrassingly stupid and moments that I've seen a dozen times in other movies.  Very unoriginal.  I realize it's a light hearted movie but should I really be able to tell the man she's going
to fall in love with immediately?

Brad chose the next movie and we switched genre's completely.  The International, a lesser heard of movie but my husband being a finance major and ex bank teller was attracted to the bank corruption idea.  I don't remember the last movie that's been so over my head and here comes the big spoiler...  They spend the entire movie trying to blow open this huge corruption and in the end... they fail!  We watch two hours of very boring non drama to end up with nothing!  Nothing accomplished, nothing changed just a whole bunch of dead people.

Our next choice is the Book of Eli... anyone seen it?  Any warnings?

I miss Lost, we just watched 6 seasons in roughly 6 weeks.  So far everything else is paling in comparison.

Ribbon Belts

I've decided to add ribbon belts to my purchasable items.  $8 would get you one of these beauties.

As far as sizing goes, they fit my almost 10 month old with plenty of room to spare, they are all roughly 23 inches long.  I'd be happy to make some longer or shorter though ribbon selection would vary.  Let me know if you're interested.

Petting Zoo

Last week we took Catie to the petting zoo and  we all had a great time.

The first animal we saw (or should I say smelled) were these really big, really dirty, REALLY smelly pigs.  They snorted and snuffled and Catie wasn't sure what to make of them.  The smell got to us pretty quick and moved on.

They had bunnies and kitties that you could pet and then a nice boy came in carrying a guinea pig.  This photo makes it look like she was really interested in it, it's deceiving.  She hardly noticed it.

After the bunnies we headed to the chicken coop where the roosters were crowing and Catie was not happy.  We didn't spend much time there.  She didn't like the noisy geese much either.

My favorite animals were the goats.  You could go into the goat pen and pet them and they made cute goat noises and nibbled on pants and camera straps and anything else available.

It was a very successful trip for us, sadly two Mom's discovered that their daughters had allergies to something.  Swollen eyes and runny noses resulted in a trip for Benadryl.

We'd definitely go again.  It's called Just Fur Fun and it's in Coaldale.  Adults pay $3.00 and kids over 1 pay $2.00.

Twighlight = Girl Crack

I haven't seen Twighlight, I haven't read the books.  The above description came from a friend who has read and seen them.  Girl Crack, it seems to be a perfectly fitting description.

I can understand tween girls love for Twilight, I get that, it's who the books were written for.  But when women my age are in love with Twilight and think Taylor is HOT, that I just don't get.  Mommy bloggers creating designs for t-shirts and the like, this stuff just surprises me.

For now I'll skip the addiction, you go ahead and watch it again for me.

Necklaces For Sale?

Since I made the ribbon necklace I've been thinking more and more about little girl necklaces. I think they look so cute on Catie and I've created a couple more. 

I had an idea I thought I'd throw out there... wondering if anyone is interested in purchasing some of these necklaces for their little girls.  They're made to fit a 3-7 yr old but I think they're all cute on Catie too.  If no one is interested I won't feel bad, just thought I'd throw the idea out there.


So far I've made two of the ribbon necklaces with matching bracelets.  I also made a turquise and coral string of glass beads.  It's hard to tell in the photo but they each have one different coloured bead, I thought it was a nice touch.

Let me know if you're interested or even if you think it's a dumb idea and here's one more shot of Catie as my model.  I really should have taken this photo in the morning when she was still clean :)
